Sam was born to Janice and Samuel T. Phillips Jr. on Nov. 27, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas. He grew up playing sports and drinking gedunks with his younger brother, Bob, their cousin Craig and their beloved Granddad. (Cigars optional.)
A proud Texas Tech graduate, he worked in the human resources field for more than 40 years before retiring to spend more time on the golf course and clean his swimming pool.
In addition to playing the guitar, Sam loved golf, baked goods, and drawing caricatures on birthday cards. He enjoyed taking pictures and documented every family gathering.
Sam leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Gigi; daughter Mandy Forbus; son S. Turner Phillips IV; stepson Nathan Bryson; son-in-law Matthew Forbus; and grandchildren Dylan (14) and Arley (11) Forbus - all of whom he loved to pieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at J. E. Foust & Son Funeral Directors, 523 S. Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051.
