Loyd Allen Beam, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 22, 2022. He lived most of his life in Irving, Texas, but at the time of his death was living in New Braunfels, Texas.
Loyd was born on February 25, 1927 to Harris Garland Beam and Viola Hadassah Breedlove Beam in the tiny town of Flint, Texas. The family moved to the Huntington, Texas area in Angelina County when he was young. He attended Huntington schools prior to going into the U. S. Army in May, 1945 where he attained the rank of corporal serving until 1947. After returning from military service, he earned his G.E.D. and started his career in the transportation industry.
In 1949 one of his co-workers invited him to Thanksgiving dinner at his parent’s home in Grapevine, Texas where he met Lassie Leova Murff. They fell in love and were married on February 10, 1951. They went on to have four children, Fred Edward Beam, Janet Kathleen Beam Lawson, Patricia Sue Beam Head, and Cynthia Dawn Beam. Lot and LEe were married for 55 years.
He worked in the freight industry as a truck-driver and freight handler for over 40 years. Loyd was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked at various companies before he retired from Yellow Freight System in 1989. He then worked part-time as a security officer for several years. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching his kids play sports and other school activities, taking family vacations, playing dominos, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a long time member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Irving, Texas.
During the last several years of his life, he moved to New Braunfels sharing his life with a very special person, Billie Radcliffe, for whom he cared very deeply.
Loyd was predeceased by his parents, his wife Lee, his daughter Janet, his two brothers Leonard and Lewis, three sisters, Georgia, Gladys, and Sue. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Northcutt of Garland, Texas. He is also survived by his children, Fred and his wife Debra, Patricia and her husband Rickey, and Cyndi along with 7 grandchildren, Ellis Beam, James Wesley Head, Rebecca Beam Jones, Robyn Head Pinilla, Amanda Lee Beam, Ryne Wayne Lawson, and Reese Allen Lawson, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at J. E. Foust & Sons Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas on Wednesday, June 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at J. E. Foust on Thursday, June 30, at 10:00 a.m. with internment afterward at Lonesome Dove Cemetery in Southlake.
