John W. Simmons, 90, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 SERVICES: 2pm Saturday, Jan 31, 2015 at the Grapevine Church of Christ. Reception to follow at the church. Interment will be at Grapevine Cemetery. John was born September 1, 1924 in Canton, Texas, the son of Henry Scott and Maude (Mullins) Simmons. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. John graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1950 with a BA in Education. He and Bettie (McPherson) Harlin were united in marriage July 1, 1955 In Dallas, Texas. John worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 30 years. He was a Farmer and Rancher and a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and the Quarter Horse Association. John was also a member of the Grapevine Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters,Ione McWilliams, Avis Morris, Lorene Morris and Sybil Walters and brothers, Willard Simmons and Jack Simmons. SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife Bettie Simmons of Southlake; sons, William Ted Harlin of Dallas and Lynn Simmons of Grapevine; daughter and son-in-law, Nanette and Mike Dowell of Southlake; grandchildren, Jessica Lockhart and Melissa Lockhart, Chad Dowell and Carly Dowell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
