Gordon Smith of Roanoke, TX passed away in his home on November 10, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born in Forestburg, TX in 1935 to parents Ora Belle and Manuel Truman Smith. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Nelda Jean. He is survived by his wife, Joy, their daughter Luanne Dean and husband Buford, son Spencer Smith and wife Kelli, grandchildren Katie and Garrett, sister Clarene Vyse and husband Jerry, their children Angie and Cory, brother Gilbert Smith and wife Lynda, and their children Steven and Kathi.
Gordon served as a deacon for the Roanoke Church of Christ. He worked in the freight industry for ICX & Jones Truck Lines and was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 745. He also served as a city council member for Roanoke, Texas. Proudly retiring at 56, he enjoyed reading and watching westerns, gardening, fishing, and watching after his grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest at Elizabeth Cemetery, and the service will be streamed at the Roanoke Church of Christ on Tuesday, November 16th at 1:00 pm. If desired, donations can be made to the Roanoke Church of Christ.
