Services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, October 19, 2024 at J.E. Foust & Sons Funeral Home on Main Street in Grapevine with Chaplain Dave Barger officiating. Burial will follow at the Grapevine Cemetery located at the corner of Dooley Street and Wildwood Lane.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betsy Mayes, and their four children: Terry Mayes, Robert Mayes, Karen Tefertiller and Cheryl Snow.
Bobby has four grandchildren: Avery Florence, Megan Jumper, Hannah Florence, and Cole Jumper. Bobby also has four additional grandchildren by way of his daughters’ marriages: Olivia Tefertiller, Paige Tefertiller, Presley Tefertiller, and Briggs Snow.
Bobby Mayes was born to Lewis L. Mayes and Minnie Richards Mayes in Bell County, Texas in 1934. Bobby’s three sisters and their husbands have preceded him in death: Lillian and James Burns of Nacogdoches, Texas; Opal and Donnell Dixon of Temple, Texas; and Mae and Alvin Simek of Euless, Texas.
Mr. Mayes was a graduate of Troy High School in 1952. He was drafted into service with the US Army and was stationed in Bermerhaven, Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1959 and returned to his career with the Lone Star Gas Company, where he served more than 38 years.
