On Sunday, October 21, 2018, Betty Pruitt, a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed peacefully from the hands of her children into the arms of God and everlasting life. She was 85 years old.
Betty had many admirable traits, an intelligent, independent woman that loved her family, friends and community, but it was her quick wit, contagious laugh, endearing smile and deep ability to listen that will be missed dearly by those who knew her well. When you were with her, you knew you were important to her - she was interested, focused and dug deep into any topic you brought to her. She loved life and saw the bright side in everything as well as the best in everyone.
As an elementary school teacher for 25 years, Betty cultivated a multitude of young minds, many of which she continued to stay in contact with through the years. She valued each and every one of them, and relished watching them grow into adulthood.
Following retirement, she continued to teach and cultivate minds in a different capacity. Notably, she was an inspirational Christian. Her strong, unwavering faith truly epitomized the life that many strive to attain. Not surprisingly, Betty was a regular volunteer for various church functions including Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and Ladies Bible class. Less known, she also taught English to Laotian members of her church, taught the Bible to female inmates in the county jail and to men in a local halfway house and she tirelessly graded Bible lessons from Africa through World Bible.
We mourn our loss of her bright presence but joyously look to the heavens and celebrate her eternal happiness. The family plans a private graveside service at a later time near Betty’s birthplace. In honor of Betty’s beautiful life and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Universal Health Resources, P.O. Box 8795, Fort Worth, Texas 76124.
