Tom as born in Prineville, OR on April 24, 1928 and lived most of his life as an Oregonian. His father worked at the lumber mill in Prineville and Tom was the youngest of four. He graduated from Gilcrest High School and attended one year at Oregon State University. Tom was an incredibly gifted craftsman and renovated countless homes throughout his life. He had a knack for taking a piece of wood and turning it into a thing of useful beauty. He also was mechanically inclined, and he had stories of rebuilding old jalopies into wonderful running automobiles.
Tom met and married Patricia Foster (Gonzales) in 1963 in Yreka, CA. where they worked together at Sharp’s Lumber Mill. She had two daughters and they then had two sons.
Patricia passed away in April of 2000 after she and Tom lived in Grants Pass for several years. He married Cecelia Bartley in 2006. Tom and Cecelia have had a thriving tailor and custom sewing business in Grants Pass for many years.
During his career, Tom as a very successful lumber mill manager at Sharp’s, Medco, and Lakeview Lumber, to name a few. He started his lumber career pulling green chain and worked his way up to general manager. During his later years he worked at Red Wood Terrace where he utilized his maintenance skills.
Tom loved camping, fishing, hunting, football, and watching Westerns. He served as an usher at multiple Catholic Churches through the years and finished his service as the head usher at St Ann’s in Grants Pass. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tom is survived by his wife, Cecelia, his daughters, Marianne Gonzales Sims, Linda Oliver, both of Sacramento, CA; sons Michael Hauptman and Joseph Hauptman, both of Grants Pass; four grandsons, one granddaughter and seven great grandkids.
A memorial Mass will be held at St Anne Catholic Church on Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m. with the rosary recited at 10:15 a.m..
