Thomas C. Johnson, age 81, went to be with his Lord Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lanette Johnson; and his siblings Walter Johnson and Ardith Krantz. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his children Elizabeth and Scott Greene, Mike and Anne Johnson, Susan and Doug Tuttle, Paul Johnson; grandchildren Corydon and Alexa Tuttle, Ella Tuttle, Coleton Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Raleigh Tuttle; siblings Karen Gernaat, Jerry and MaryLee Johnson, Scott and Jean Johnson, Gerry and Linda Radmacher; and people he considered siblings: Dave and Rosemary Wenner, Gerry Williams and Don VanKley.
Tom was an owner of Johnson Carpet in Grandville; he began his career as a young man installing carpet and doing various odd jobs around the shop. He was a quietly generous man who truly lived by the maxim, “You can’t out-give God.” He was hardworking and loyal. Tom had high expectations, but led graciously. He loved spending time with his family - especially football watching parties with his grandkids. Tom was forward-thinking, working with computers very early on, teaching his kids the basics of programming. Somewhere warm near the ocean was his favorite place to be.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan (East Building). The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, at Grand Rapids First – Prayer Chapel, 2100 44th St. SW, Wyoming, Michigan (Entry M near the roundabout on the southwest side of the building.) Pastor Sam Rijfkogel will officiate.
