Ralph G. DeMeyer, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 24, 2018 and played his last softball game on Earth. He was reunited with his wife of 55 years, Marianne DeMeyer, and his parents Arthur and Marie DeMeyer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Cynthia (Lon) Tiffany, Chris DeMeyer; and grandchildren Cody, Ashley and Derek.
He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1948 where he played football and baseball. After graduating from high school, he worked at the Studebaker Car Company. Ralph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Private 1st Class. He was also a police officer for 21 years in South Bend, Indiana and, in 1978, he was elected Sheriff of St. Joseph County.
Ralph had many distinguishing accomplishments during his life, including being inducted into the Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. He pitched softball for 50 years and pitched almost 2,000 games with 50 no-hitters. After playing on 27 teams, he retired at the age 66.
In honor of Ralph’s wishes, there will be no services. In memory of Ralph and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or Holland Home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Faith Hospice and Holland Home.
The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
