He was described as a kind, peaceful soul who served as a mentor to many people. Martin loved his wife of 57 years, and also loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandsons. He showed us what unconditional love was. Martin was an avid Tigers fan and never gave up on the Lions. He had a great sense of humor! During his time on this earth, Martin was a servant to his community by being a voice for those who couldn’t speak.
He was a strong advocate for Deaf rights, always encouraging change. He was instrumental in developing services for the Deaf in Grand Rapids, MI. He was also active as a coach of the Women’s Deaf Softball League - bringing them to a championship. Martin also was extremely involved in Paws with a Cause at its inception. He was fortunate to be the first recipient of a hearing dog trained by close friend, Mike Sapp, founder and former CEO of PAWS. Recently he helped Paws celebrate 40 years of service. He also was part of the Lions Club and Jaycees of Grandville. Marty never met a stranger; everyone was his friend!
A memorial service has been planned for Marty. It will be held Friday, October 9, 2020. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. and a private service - due to COVID-19 - will follow for family and close friends. The memorial will be held at 2000 Peters Road, Bailey, MI 49303.
