Kenneth Harold Mekkes, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 8, 2021 while surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alice Mekkes and his two sisters, Mildred Perkins and Alma VanderWal. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 65 years, Lily Mekkes; his children Linda (Tim) Patterson, Dan (Tina) Mekkes, and Tim Mekkes; grandchildren Adam, Chad (Brittany), Ashley, McKinley (Jake), Danielle, Hannah, Grace, Levi; and six great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.
While Ken was young, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the army, he was a printer by trade and retired from the Wyoming city offices as the department head after 26 years. Ken and Lily are both long-time members of Byron Center Bible Church where they were actively involved in the church community. Ken had a love of fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. In his free time Ken loved to garden, and had an even greater love of sharing the harvest with others. Ken was a faithful servant of the Lord, and was always quick to lend a hand to anyone in need and share the love of Jesus while doing so.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building) 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418 with visitation from 1-2:30 p.m. prior to the service. In memory of Ken and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Byron Center Bible Church or Mel Trotter Ministries. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
