On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Kay Lask went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Evelyn (Blossom) Lask; brothers Joe (Helen) Lask Jr., Ed (Joan) Lask, George (Joyce) Lask, Dick (Mary Jane) Lask; and sister, Garnet (Amel) Cafinni. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Lask; daughters Rita Ripley, Kim Weber, and Vivian (Wale) Oseni; grandchildren Katherine (Tyler) Emmons, Hillary (Tony) Platsis, Erik Stam, and Elizabeth Oseni; great-grandchildren Dominik, Payton, and Noah Emmons, Persephone Platsis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kay proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant and Administrative Officer. He graduated from Michigan State University with a masters in agricultural engineering and minors in mathematics and applied mechanics. He worked at Massey Ferguson as a research and development engineer and advanced engineering where he helped design and patent the hay wafering machinery used on farms. He also worked as an engineer for Ford Motor Company, Chrysler Corporation, and Teledyne Continental Motors. At General Dynamics Corporation, he worked as an armor development engineer, senior project engineer, supervisor of structure department, and project engineer where he helped design and test the ammunition door seals in the M1A1 tank to withstand direct fire in combat.
Kay loved learning new “fix it” skills, using them to renovate family home(s) and also to build a house after retirement. He enjoyed singing and attending fine arts performances, including the opera and symphony. He served in numerous ways over the years at Bethesda Missionary Temple in Detroit, Christ New Covenant Church in Hudsonville, and Grand Rapids First in Grand Rapids.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to service.
