Doug was a 1957 Grandville High School graduate, served over four years in the US Navy, and then married the love of his life, Carol Sue Knerr, on June 22, 1963. A man of service, Doug retired after a long career with the Grand Rapids branch of the US Post Office. Doug was known for his passion for golf, shark tooth collecting in Florida, singing in his church choir, and especially for his big smile.
Along with his wife, Carol, Doug is survived by his daughter, Tami (Dale) Crabtree; son, Jeffrey (Evelyn) Paauwe; grandchildren Blaine and Amelia Crabtree; and step-grandchildren Kevin and Kelly Wolf.
A service and dessert reception will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
