Douglas “Doug” L. Hansen, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Doug was born January 13, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MI to Clair and Marian (Jewett) Hansen.
Doug served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he completed his education earning both his undergraduate and Master’s Degrees from MSU. Doug taught for 34 years at Comstock Park High School as well as serving three years as Director at Camp O’Malley. Doug was a life-long member of Berean Baptist Church and served for many years, including as an elder, deacon, and trustee. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, bird watching, and garage sales.
Doug was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Jenna Hansen, and his grandson, Jacob Hansen.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Donna; children, Mike and Heidi Hansen, Debbie and David Schelhaas, and Matt Hansen; grandchildren, Phil, Marissa, Katelyn, Joel, Jill, Amy, Alex, Emily, Laura, and Wes; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Connor, Hailey, and Presley; brothers, Roger Hansen, and Dale (Betty) Hansen; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Berean Baptist Church, 1574 Coit NE, Grand Rapids, with Pastors Marcus Little and Don Pearson officiating. Interment will be at Cannonsburg Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Doug’s family Monday, February 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Van Strien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield NE, Grand Rapids, and Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the church.
