Don Mayton, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Stewart, and daughter, Leslie Kleiner. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Battjes) Mayton; children Philip Mayton, Douglas Mayton, Jim (Nichole) Kleiner, Teresa (Ed) VanderLeest, Daena (Chris) Vuyst, Mark (Cheri) Battjes, Ruth (Brett) Altman; grandchildren Nicole (Andrew) White, Morgan Mayton, Elizabeth Mayton, Hannah (Brian) Pike, Alex Kleiner, Austin Kleiner, Colin (Rylee) Kleiner, Sydney Kleiner, Rebecca VanderLeest, Sara VanderLeest, Anna (Neal) Hulstein, Joshua Vuyst, Katie (Steve) Harvey, Laura (Dylan) Huizinga, Nicholas (Harle) Battjes, Arianna Battjes, Halle Battjes, Saul Altman, Garrett (Caitlyn) Altman, Keagan Altman, Cole J. Altman; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandy (Duayne) Whitehurst; sisters-in-law June Drenten, Lilarae (Gene) Bush; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Don graduated from the General Motors Institute and Carnegie Mellon University. He had a 42-year career with GM, and for his last six years he served as plant manager of the 36th Street Stamping Plant in Grand Rapids and the Bristol Road Stamping Plant in Flint. He was a member of Covenant Community Church and a member of many clubs: BCA, AACA, 53-54 Skylark, GMC Motorhome and Tin Can Tourist. Don organized the restoration of GM Futurliner #10 for NATMUS in Auburn, IN with a group of faithful volunteer old car guys. He was a loving man of God filled with the fruits of the Spirit.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2024 at Covenant Community Church, 4276 Baldwin Street, Hudsonville, MI 49426, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to service.
