VAN HOUTEN David Dale Van Houten, age 73, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, June 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Delia Van Houten, his sister, Josephine Huizingh, his brothers, John and Jay Van Houten, brother-in-law, Elmer Toonstra, and his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Vander Meer (Cassee). Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Linda Van Houten (Cassee); his children, Melissa Vogt, Jeff (Stacy) Van Houten, Julie (Rick) Eggerding, Mark Vogt; his grandchildren, Jordan, Amanda, Megan, Ryan, Emmie and Katie; his sister, Ruthe Toonstra; brothers-in-law, Marv Huizingh and Rick (Phyllis) Cassee; and several nieces and nephews.
Dave was a builder of homes and hope. His faith was strong and evidenced by his work with Calvinist Cadet Corps, his church, and Mel Trotter Ministries. Dave worked in residential and commercial construction as well as building and grounds maintenance at Sunset Manor. He was a man of love and service and a Veteran of the US Army.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with Dave's family will be held 5 to 8 PM Friday at Cook Funeral Home in Grandville, 4235 Prairie St. SW (west building). A memorial service will be held 12 PM Saturday, June 21, at Parkwood Presbyterian Church, 7998 28th Avenue in Jenison, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:30 AM. Cremation and a private burial will occur at a later dare. In honor of Dave, contributions may be made to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
