On Wednesday, September 18, 2024 Cornelius VanderZouwen, age 94 of Grandville, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma (Groendyke) on March 24, 2020 and also a granddaughter, Sarah Capman. He is survived by his sister, Floretta Hanson; son, Dale and Barb VanderZouwen, grandchildren Jason VanderZouwen, Joni and Kevin Leslie; son, Mark and Cindy VanderZouwen, grandchildren Ryan and Susan VanderZouwen, Jodi and Josh Zick, Devon Capman; son, Steve and Clara VanderZouwen, grandchildren Raeanne and Dan VanDerPlaats, Liz and Dustin Adam, Kristine and Nick Coulston; daughter, Dawn VanderZouwen; and seven great-grandchildren Hunter, Konnor, Emmah, Anna, Samara, Hadley, and Vella.
Cornelius was a charter member of Zion Reformed Church in Grandville, Michigan, where he served as an elder and deacon, participated in many other acts of service including 20 years on the church’s sound and radio ministry. He was multi-talented - built his own first house, was a dairy farmer, master welder, and retired after 23 years as a forklift technician from Columbian Transfer and Storage in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
More than anything, he loved the Lord and he loved his family. Cornelius and Thelma did everything together. As Thelma left us during COVID, and to honor their commitment to each other, a service in celebration of life for both Cornelius and Thelma will be held on October 12 at Zion Reformed Church, 4457 36th Street in Grandville. Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. prior to the 2 p.m. service.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Grandville Cemetery.
In honor of Cornie and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
