Barbara June Smith

SMITH - Barbara Smith, age 83, of Burnips, passed away on Thursday September 29, 2005 after a long illness.

She was married for 64 years to Clyde Smith, who preceded her in death on January 27, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Sharon, brothers Roger, Gerald and Robert Herp.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Shirley Schepers and her husband Roger. Proud grandmother of Robert Schepers, Pam and Dan Scholten and Christy and Anton Barynas; and even prouder great grandmother of Presley Anne and Parker Smith Scholten and Joseph Barynas. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Drier, sisters in law; Lavern Herp and Eleanor Herp; brothers and sisters in law, Etta Rewa, Warren Smith, Arden and Wilma Smith, Dene and Colleen Smith, and Annabelle Harnish and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was postmistress of the Burnips Post Office for 20 years from 1967 to 1987. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and prepared many wonderful holiday meals for her family who will miss her spunky wit and generosity.

Visitation will be Sunday 2 to 4 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville west building 4235 Prairie St. SW.

Funeral service will be Monday 2 p.m. at the Burnips United Methodist Church with Pastor Tony Shumaker officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the American Diabetes Association.
