After graduating from West Catholic High School, Tom earned his bachelor’s degree at Aquinas College. Wanting to further his education, he attended law school at Indiana University. Tom spent his career working in wealth management. He retired from Monroe Bank and Trust in Plymouth only when his health dictated it was time.
In 1974, Tom was united in marriage to his true love, the former Cheryl Rhodes. Family was important to Tom, and he welcomed all of the Cheryl’s family into his heart as his own.
For many years, Tom sat on the board for the Michigan Philharmonic Symphony in Plymouth. He was also an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish.
Tom enjoyed spending time watching movies and reading. He loved a good action film or reading a mystery novel. However, his favorite pastime was playing with Winnie, his mini goldendoodle. Over the years, several canine companions made their home with Tom and Cheryl, but Winnie was one of Tom’s favorites.
A quieter soul, Tom was known for his kindness and love of family. He had a quick wit, and enjoyed a good laugh. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl; his siblings: Nancy Steele and Ron (Haviland) Steele; Cheryl’s siblings: Wayne (Sharon) Rhodes, Craig (Nancy) Rhodes and Cindy Doubblestien; his sister-in-law Jane Steele, his beloved Winnie and dear friends of 40 years Jim & Sally Morris as well as many other relatives. Tom was preceded in death by his brother Bob Steele, his sister-in-law Janice (Ken) Jenison and brothers-in-law Dan Rhodes and Jerry Doubblestien.
Family services will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Tom may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
