Theona had many interests and was a creative soul. She enjoyed being affectionately known as “The Honey Lady” at the Rockford Farmer’s Market for several years. She was a talented seamstress and truly loved her embroidery machine. She collected owls, angels, and dolls. The only regret she expressed about growing old was that she couldn’t get out to garden and enjoy her bumper crops of dill and pickles.
Theona had a kind heart and a wide stubborn streak. She insisted on riding her John Deere and mowing her 2.5 acres right up until the last year or two. She and her husband Ellsworth were charter members at Messiah Lutheran Church.
Theona is survived by her children Cheryl (Dick) Brown and Wayne (Jane) Gee and grandchildren Michelle Brown (Tom Sanders), Kyle Brown, and Valerie Gee, her brother Ray Neuman and sister Mabel Small. Theona was preceded in death by her husband Ellsworth and infant daughter Karen as well as siblings Merle, Lloyd, Herb, Charlie, Don, Bob, Russ, and Edwin.
Visitation for Theona will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church (2727 5 Mile Rd, NE, Grand Rapids) at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. There will be time for family gathering and a luncheon following. Internment will take place at about 2:00p.m. at Kent Memorial Gardens in Byron Center.
