Sandra Lee Dood, age 80 passed away at her home surrounded by her family on July 16, 2024. Sandi was born on July 13, 1944 in Ionia one of two daughters born to Kenneth & Helen (Beck) Rowley. She spent her early childhood growing up in Ionia, as she readied herself for middle school, her family would relocate to Grand Rapids where she would go on to graduate from Creston High School.
Always hardworking, Sandi started her working life as an EKG Tech for Butterworth Hospital. However, she realized working in the medical field was not the best fit for her. She desired a more customer service role, and soon found her place working in real estate. She spent her career selling homes for Pearson-Cook Realtors.
In 1970, Sandi was set up on a blind date, an event that would change her life. She met Jim Dood and they immediately hit it off. They made their love official when they were married on March 13, 1971.
Sandi was a woman of faith, and she and Jim were longtime members of Faith Lutheran Church. Giving back to her church home, she spent many years assisting with the church’s booking keeping, and financial managing.
Traveling and camping as a family was a favorite of Sandi’s, as long as Jim was not driving the motorhome on the mountain ridges. She may have been known to hide her head so she wouldn’t see how close they were to the edge of the cliffs. She loved to gamble and play games. For many years she was part of a Bridge club, and Sandi and Jim would play cards with many of their friends. She also delighted in the thrill of a slot machine, and had a good eye for the ones about to hit the jackpot. She was also famous for her tried and true cooking, with many asking for her recipes so they could hope to duplicate them.
Known to all as a thoughtful and caring woman, Sandi will be always remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma.
Sandi is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim; her children: Scott Plank, Wendy Ladd, Jodie Wetterman, Derek (Tania Adal) Dood and Brent Dood; her grandchildren: Jeffrey (Jamie), Aiyana, Jared, Audrey (Adam), Mitchell (Erica), Mary, David, Allie, Erica, Zach, Violette and Charlotte; her great-grandchildren: Bailey, Haley, Bennett, Rovin and Guhner and her sister Linda Whitely as well as many other relatives.
Visitation for Sandi will be held on Tuesday July 23, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Kent Memorial Gardens.
