Robert "Bob" Nathaniel Peterson passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 7, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI. Born on December 1, 1941, in Moline, IL, Bob led a fulfilling life dedicated to his family and career.
Bob was the son of Isabel Rose McNair and Harry Clendenin Peterson. He grew up in Mount
Lebanon, PA, where he graduated from Mount Lebanon High School. His upbringing and service in the Army developed in him a strong sense of integrity and hard work—values that guided him throughout his life.
After his service in the army, Bob became a dedicated student, earning his Bachelor's degree in
Business & Economics Management from Lehigh University, class of 1966, and went on to achieve a Master’s in Business Administration from Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort
Wayne, IN.
Bob began working for Alcoa right after graduating from Lehigh University. The company moved
him to Davenport, Iowa where he met his future wife. He always told his kids he fell in love with
her the first time he saw her and knew they were meant to be together. On March 9, 1968, Bob
married the love of his life, Beverly (Bev) Ann Johnson. The two of them raised four children,
traveled the country, living in seven states, and two countries. They loved to travel, laugh, and
make bets with each other. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership
even beyond Bev's passing in 2017. Bob often spoke of his deep and unwavering love for Bev,
a bond that remained strong throughout his life.
Bob was a proud father to four children: Stacy Adams, Michelle Peterson, Kristin Hedges, and
Brett Peterson. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren: Trey Foster, Kelsey Veara,
Harper Peterson, Nathaniel Hedges, Ian Hedges, Brighton Peterson, Ani Hedges, Hazel
Peterson, Eli Hedges, and Milo Peterson. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy
Peterson. He is survived by Sandy’s children, Steve Parrish and Jill Worfel. Bob was also
preceded in death by his namesake, Nathaniel Lewis Hedges, in 2005. Bob’s beloved dogs,
Stella and Lucy, now find loving care with his granddaughter Kelsey.
Bob's Army service led to a distinguished career in Human Resources. His professional journey
with Alcoa, Inc. spanned 50 years, contributing to its growth and success both in the USA and
Europe. His career took him and his family to many places, such as Pittsburgh, PA, and Salt
Lake City, UT, and an international stint in Lausanne, Switzerland. He worked tirelessly to
provide stability and success for his family. After retirement, they moved to Eufaula, AL to be
near grandchildren and enjoy lake life.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was an active community member. He coached softball and
baseball in Pittsburgh, played a significant role in organizing Christmas Luminaries in Northmont
Farms, and was a founding member of Friends of Lake Eufaula. He also served as Treasurer for the First Baptist Church Sunday School in Eufaula, AL.
Bob's hobbies reflected his meticulous nature and love for family. He took pride in keeping his
budget and address sheets up-to-date, tracking the weather, and engaging in daily Wordle
challenges with his children and grandchildren. He found joy in the simple act of checking the
mail and was known for calling relatives who lived several states away with, “What’s going on
with your weather?”
Bob’s life philosophy centered around integrity and honesty. He believed in the importance of
keeping one’s word and exemplified deep, sincere listening. He disdained dishonesty and
showboating, teaching his family the true meaning of respect and commitment through his
actions and words.
With his all affairs settled and family cared for, Bob passed away in the bed he shared with his
beloved wife, the same bed in which he kissed her goodbye for the last time.
An intimate memorial service will be scheduled later in the summer at Panama City Beach, FL.
Bob will be cremated according to his wishes. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the
American Cancer Society.
