Proud to be an American, Michael joined ROTC while in high school and enlisted in the Marines after graduation. He served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Returning home, Michael earned his Associates Degree and discovered he had a talent for stain glass, using his creative skills he spent many years designing and crafting beautiful glass pieces.
Always willing to support and help, Michael dedicated his time and talents to serving fellow veterans. Always involved with the VFW and American Legion posts in the area, Michael focused his time helping the Marine Corps League. For over 20 years, he volunteered his culinary skills to the De Colores Retreat and Event Center, some of his recipes are still used today. Most importantly, Michael was dedicated to assisting with funeral honors for his fallen comrades.
On July 3, 1975, Michael married the love of his life the former Anne Alexander who survives. Besides his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his son Mitchell Schultz; his grandchildren: Joshua Schultz, Leah (Jared) Horton and Jacob Schultz; his great granddaughter Serena Horton; his brothers-in-law Bruce Alexander and Curtis (Kathy) Alexander, as well as many other relatives. Michael was preceded in death by his son Bryan Schultz and his only sibling, Susan Schultz.
Visitation for Michael will be held on Saturday August 14, 2021 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Grand Rapids International Fellowship Church where his funeral service including full military honors will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial take place privately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
