Katie A. Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Kaitlyn (Katie) Anna Smith, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Katie left this world Thursday, December 19 at the age of 29. She was born August 29, 1990 in Clearwater, Florida, to William and Jacqueline Smith. She attended Northview High School through 2008 and went on to pursue a medical career as a nursing home aide.

Katie was a devoted and loving mother to Landon (age 11), Micheal (age 7), and Elliott (age 4); they were her world, and she wanted nothing more than for them to have a wonderful life. She lived life to the fullest through the simple pleasures: enjoying time with her children; spending time with family; long summer days spent poolside with friends. When you think of Katie, celebrate the good memories you have of her, remembering that life is short and should be lived to the fullest.

Katie is survived by her children; her parents; brother Christian (Ashlee) Smith; grandparents David and Reba Christiansen; uncle Mark (Lisa) Christiansen; aunt Debbie (Pat) Carter; uncle Howard (Georgia) Smith; aunt Cindy Vandenbussche; dear friend Val Ivakhnenko; cousins Jason, Michael, Marla, David, Laura, Jon, Samantha, Veronica, and James and Kathy Holderman. Katie was preceded in death by grandparents William and Angeline Smith.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Katie has touched are invited to Grand Rapids Fire Fighter Union Hall; 1930 Fuller Avenue NE 49505 on Thursday, December 26 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Celebration of Life will begin at the Grand Rapids Fire Fighter Union Hall on December 26, 2019 at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established at Independent Bank for the benefit of the children. Details will be available at the Celebration of Life event.
