John M. Colon, Jr., age 79 of Grand Rapids, passed at his home on February 19, 2022. John was born in Grand Rapids on April 21, 1942 to John & Bernice (Omilian) Colon. He was a lifelong resident of the area.
After graduating from Union high school, John settled into a career in the printing industry. He spent almost 20 years working at the Grand Rapids Press before ultimately moving to Greenville Printing; selling printing services until his retirement.
A man of faith, John was an active member at Blessed Sacrament Parish. He was a gold card member at the Casino Club. He also was active at the Elks Club until their closing. His favorite pastime was golfing with his friends. The group planned weekly outings during the golfing season trying out all the courses in the area.
Most importantly, John was dedicated to his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and his grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader.
John is survived by his wife Gloria; his sons Mark and Todd (Sharon); his grandchildren: Cameron, Alexander (Lucy Snyder), Joshua (Jody Sellers) and Abigail; his brother Michael (Gene) Colon, brother-in-law Donald Kolenda, and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers James and Robert Colon.
Memorial Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Parish.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Carmelite Sisters or the charity of your choosing.
