While attending Catholic Central High School, Jackie met her future husband, Richard Malone. For Jackie, it was love at first sight and the high school sweethearts were united in marriage on June 21, 1952, at St. James Catholic Church.
Throughout her adulthood, Jackie worked as a bookkeeper for the Grand Rapids Herald and as a cafeteria manager at Grand Rapids Community College. When she wasn’t working, Jackie could be found golfing with Richard at their favorite course, English Hills. If she wasn’t on the green, she was in the streams fishing for salmon. Both Richard and Jackie loved to fish, not only in Manistee, but deep sea fishing for bigger catches, like their prized blue marlin.
Jackie and Richard were true world travelers, who visited almost all of the United States, as well as England, Ireland, Italy, and well, it might be easier to list where they didn’t go!
As a devout Catholic, faith was very important to Jackie. She attended mass at Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Parish for many years. Always looking to give back to her church community, Jackie knitted and crocheted blankets for babies born in the parish.
Jackie will be remember as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandma.
Jackie is survived by her sons Patrick (Suzanne) Malone, Dennis (Judy) Malone, and William (Linda) Malone; five grandchildren; her sister Kathleen Loomis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard, in 2016.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, July 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a memorial service officiated by Fr. Tony Pelak.
