Evelyn M. Hammond, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 13, 2013. She will be deeply missed by her loving children James (Barbara) Steffens, Jeanne Schuel, Lawrence (Elizabeth) Steffens, Kathleen Steffens, and Diane (Donald) Mohr; 10 grand children and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands George Steffens and Robert Hammond; and her 8 brothers and sisters. Evelyn was known by many as a very dedicated mother and grandmother. It was also well known that she was very proud of her Irish heritage. The family will be greeting friends on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 1:30–3:30 PM and 6:00-8:00PM, with a rosary taking place at 3:00PM, at Reyers North Valley Chapel; 2815 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids MI 49505. The Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 17, 2013 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church; 1120 4 Mile Rd NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. Contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to Santa Claus Girls of Kent County, Michigan.
