David Martin Stark

My husband was born in Florida, and grew up in Anderson, Indiana, were he graduated from Highland High school. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received his Bachelor's and Master’s degrees, and PhD in Latin American History. He taught history at Grand Valley State University from 1999-2023 where he was a Full Professor.

David loved history, and loved teaching. He cared deeply for his students and colleagues who affectionately called him Tío (uncle), boss and chief. His students have become family. David loved genealogy and collaborating with his peers from the Genealogy Society in Puerto Rico.

David was extremely generous and compassionate. Above all, David loved and cared so much for his family and friends who have become family. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers and especially the nurses and social worker who helped us so much during my husband's final days. They helped us through the worst of circumstances as David's condition declined. They provided compassionate comfort and care and did everything to ensure a seamless transition to the next life. David was an extraordinary person and the love of my life. I could not have asked for a better husband and I am grateful for all of the years we shared together.

David - I will miss you dearly, but I know that you are in a better place and no longer suffering. Thank you for being my husband, for loving me, for your care and generosity, and for all of the beautiful things you brought to my life. You will live forever in my heart. May you finally be at rest. With much gratitude and all my love.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Reyers North Valley Chapel (2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 27 at 10 AM followed by a luncheon to which all friends are invited at Cathedral of Saint Andrew (215 Sheldon Blvd. SE., Grand Rapids, MI).
