Andrea Marie Gabriel Carlson

Andrea Marie Carlson (Gabriel), aged 49, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father Francis L. Gabriel, and a sister Beth Ann Gabriel. Surviving are her husband of 15 years William C. Carlson, children; Cullen and Brendan Carlson, mother; Dorothy Gabriel of Dearborn Heights, sisters and brothers; Bernadette Schaffer (Lewis), Gary Gabriel, Timothy Gabriel (Patricia), Cheryl Golles (Christopher), Janet Bowers (William), and 23 nieces and nephews. Andrea graduated from Madonna University in 1991 with a B.S in Psychology, and in 1994 from the University of Detroit Mercy receiving her Masters with a school psychology specialty. Andrea has worked for The Grand Rapids School District since 1992 as a School Psychologist, and was Co-President of the Highlands Parent Teacher Council, a Mentor with the Northview Mentor Program, and an advocate for students with disabilities. She enjoyed walking, skiing, canoeing, reading, traveling with her family, and most importantly being a great mom and wife. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 12th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2275 Diamond Ave., N.E., Grand Rapids, MI with Rev. George Darling as Celebrant. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 from 1-4 & 6-9 p.m. with the rosary at 7:30p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel, and one hour prior to Mass Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family has asked those who wish to make a memorial contribution to The Salvation Army.
