R.C. Thrasher passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 in Tyler, TX. His daughter was at his side as he took his last breath on earth, with the blessed assurance that his next was with our Heavenly Father. R.C. had a strong faith in our Lord and talked in the last week about how he would soon be with God and his beloved wife, Betty “Momma”.
R.C. was born on September 25, 1931 in Whitewright, Texas to Hobart and Donia Thrasher. He spent his childhood in Whitewright. . He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Fuller of Sherman, Texas on March 4, 1950. They moved to Dallas in 1950 where they lived until he was drafted during the Korean War. They lived in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri from 1952-1954. They moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1954 where they lived 68 years until they moved to Tyler, Texas to be near their daughter, Cyndi and son, Steve.
R.C. loved his family dearly. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His deep love for his children was especially seen in how he loved and cared for their special needs son, Steve. R.C. loved spending time with and hearing stories about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. R.C. never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went.
R.C. was active in his church. He was the Junior Director at First Baptist Grand Prairie, taught 4th Grade Sunday School for over 30 years, sang in the Serendipity Choir, went on many mission trips with the youth Choralier Choir as one of the “cooks”. He thought of the youth in the Choralier Choir like they were his own kids. He also was part of the “Master Builders” that went on many mission trips to repair churches and participated in church building projects and disaster recovery work.
R.C. was employed at Southwestern Bell from 1950 – 1986. He started his career as a lineman and retired as District Manager-Cable Maintenance.
R.C. loved participating in all sports in school. He played basketball, volleyball and softball for many years with his church teams and the Senior Softball League. He played softball until he was 86.
R.C. loved to travel, from family vacations camping with friends to cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoyed travel to Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy.
R.C. was predeceased by his parents, Hobert and Donia Thrasher; his wife, Betty Fuller Thrasher; sisters, Marie Anderson, Zona Thrasher, Lenora Dollar, Mary Lou Thrasher and Ida Pearl Bonds; and brother, Jack Thrasher. He is survived by his daughter Cyndi Reynolds and her husband Rick of Bullard, TX; son, Steven Thrasher of Palestine, TX; sister, Juanita McKnight of Bonham, TX; brother-in-law, Billy Fuller of Rockwall, TX; grandson Austin Reynolds and wife Jennifer of Plano, TX; granddaughter, Lauren Turnham and husband, Adrian of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Anna Rose Reynolds, Lainey Joy Reynolds, Walker Turnham, Hayes Turnham; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 950 Mayfield, Grand Prairie, Texas.
