Marie Janette Bass passed away April 19, 2016. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 12, 1934 to Marvin and Mary Hays. Jan moved to Grand Prairie as a child when her father built the house she grew up in. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1953. She worked as an administration assistant until her family opened Bass & Hays Foundry, and then she became the Secretary Treasurer. Jan was a kind and loving woman who liked long stem red roses and had a large collection of jewelry. She was involved in the Women’s Club in Grand Prairie, Soroptimus Club in Grand Prairie, Nottingham Neighbors, and Saint Ann’s Episcopal Church. She was very independent, vivacious, and family oriented. Bragging on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a treasured past time. Faith was also a large part of her life. She even made sure that her great-grandchildren were baptized. In her free time she enjoyed playing computer games such as Free Cell and Bubble Pop. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling to Branson and taking cruises to Australia, Jamaica, and Alaska. Jan is preceded in death by her parents Marvin Hays and Mary Ernest Hays; son Barry Alan Bass; siblings Marvin J Hays and Wanda J. Dunham. She is survived by her son Benny Alton Bass and his wife Angelina; grandchildren: Christopher Neil Bass, Cassandra Bass and her husband Miguel Imperial, Victoria Renee Paille and her husband Byron Scott, Katlin Kathleen Bass; great-grandchildren: Tristan Alan Bass, Alana Brooke Bass, Ariana Alyce Bass, Olivia Grace Imperial and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 30 at 10:30 AM at Saint Anne's Episcopal Church in DeSoto, Texas. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Hepatitis Foundation or an organization of your choice.
