Larry moved to Dallas, Texas when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1965 and attended Mt. View College and Northwood University. It was in Dallas that Larry met Joyce Hill while working at Employers Insurance. It was love at first sight. In 1966 Larry enlisted in the US Air Force and after basic training in Amarillo, Texas he and Joyce were then married on March 25, 1967.
Their first military assignment was in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years. The couple was then stationed in Alamogodo, New Mexico for two years where their first daughter Lisa was born. Larry then served an additional two years in the US Air Force Reserve after returning home to Grand Prairie, Texas.
He and Joyce were blessed with two more additional children Amy and Sterling "Tom." The family first settled in Grand Prairie, Texas and then later in life moved to the country in Red Oak, Texas where his wife Joyce still resides.
Larry was a 40 year Mason with the Sam R. Hamilton Lodge #1031, Grand Prairie, Texas.
He will be remembered as an avid history buff with a dry sense of humor and a huge heart for everyone he came into contact with. He was best known for giving his last dollar to anyone in need.
Larry was a strong-willed, yet very compassionate man who always put his family first, especially his best buddy (Granddaughter) Chelsea.
Larry is preceded in death by his mother Jennie Katherine McDaniel; Father Stanley R. Thornhill; Brother Steven R. Thornhill and beloved Daughter Amy Thornhill Mayfield.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Thornhill; children: Lisa Hagerich and her husband, Jeffrey, Sterling Thornhill and his wife, Annie; grandchildren: Chelsea Rogers, Thomas Hagerich, Callie Thornhill, Megan Thornhill.
