Judith grew up in Memphis, TN where she graduated from Central High School. She graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing with her RN degree in 1962. She met William Mertes when he was working at the same hospital where she was nursing. After some persistence on William's part, they were married October 6, 1966.
In 1970 they relocated their family to Texas. Judith worked for Methodist Medical Center for 27 years and specialized in nephrology. She was a caring wife and loving mother who was a hard worker at home and work. She was always there to help others and took in her share of strays both people and pets. Judith was an avid Dallas Stars fan and member of N. Texas Great Dane Association when she showed Great Danes in the dog-show circuit. She enjoyed reading everything from romance to mystery and made sure dinner was always ready.
Judith is survived by; son Lincoln Mertes; son Sam Mertes; and daughter-in-law Tina Mertes; sister Lydia Broad, brother-in-law Harry Broad, brother Owen E Tucker, sister-in-law Josephine Tucker, sister Corey Jager, sister Susan Hancock and brother-in-law Jimmy Hancock; grandchild Loren Mertes and grandchild Jacob Mertes.
Judith was preceded in death by her husband William Mertes.
A celebration of life for Judith will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth St., Grand Prairie, Texas 75050.
