JoAnn Moore McClure was born October 15, 1932 in Marion, Louisiana to Bert Ransom Moore and Alma Estelle Stout Moore. They moved to Bonita, Louisiana before Jo Ann was 2 years of age. From there, they moved to Jones, Louisiana where Jo Ann began school at age 5. That is where she broke her arm when she fell from a fence style while running away from a playmate. The teacher found out that Jo Ann was only 5, so she had to leave school until the next school year. In the meantime, the family moved to Bastrop where Jo Ann began 1st grade, again. The family had to move multiple times to follow her Dad’s work. They lived in Farmerville, Louisiana a few years and then moved to Orange, Texas during World War 2 where her dad worked in the shipyards. They moved back to Bastrop and then to Fairbanks, Louisiana where JoAnn attended the 7th & 8th grade at Sterlington Jr. High. The family lived in Fairbanks, Louisiana while Jo Ann was a young teenager and she enjoyed the weekly “Play (game) Parties” with her friends. Jo Ann had her 16th birthday party in Fairbanks. After a while, they moved to Swartz, Louisiana where she attended Ouachita Parish High School. This is where she was living when she met and married Gordon Funk. They had one daughter, Threasia Dianne. They moved to California and later Jo Ann and her daughter returned to Louisiana. Eventually, JoAnn moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where she met Billy Joe McClure through his sister, Mary, at church. Together they had Betty Lynette, Margaret Karon, & Joe Ransom. Bill had 2 children, Shannon Gail and Jan Allison. Together they have 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. This includes their bonus children. Jo Ann lived in Grand Prairie for 66 plus years.
Jo Ann was loved dearly by everyone that ever met her. She had numerous friends not only in person but on Facebook that she communicated with and encouraged daily, including multiple uplifting messages the day she went to be with Jesus. Jo Ann was very strong in her faith, a devoted prayer warrior and shared her love of Jesus with everyone. For Jo Ann, her Lord and Savior, family and friends were the most important part of her life. She continuously gave encouragement through scriptures and anytime you were around her, you could hear her praying. JoAnn loved to work in her yard which was evidenced by the beautiful plants and flowers. She loved to see and hear the birds singing in her backyard.
