Jesse B Fox, Jr. is one of a kind. He’s the kind of uncle, brother, friend, teacher, and husband that everyone instantly likes and feels comfortable around. He’s funny, loving and helpful, and all that he does with everyone he meets is to help them grow as a person. He makes sure all of us believe in ourselves.
Now that my uncle JJ is gone, though I will miss him dearly, I’m glad he’s no longer suffering and will be at rest. A scripture comes to my mind, it’s one that during this time reassures me about the state that my uncle is in. I hope it is reassuring to you, too. It’s found in Job 14:14-15, and it states “if a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. You will call, and I will answer you, you will long for the work of your hands”. When we die, we return to dust. No spirit or “ghost“ survives this world. And when our first parents, Adam and Eve sinned, we were cursed as well. In the Bible, the wage of sin is death, which Jesse and Sheila have paid. So there’s a hope that I and my father and millions around the world exercise faith in, and that is in better world conditions brought by our heavenly father Jehovah. Jesse, and Sheila could live and enjoy life the way God intended here on earth. But for now, they are dead. And this gives me comfort, because many people say things, indicative of an afterlife, that can worsen or overlook the real pain we feel. But my uncle is dead and has paid the wage of sin. He suffers no longer, and he has a place in God's memory, as well as yours and mine.
So, as his family, we should do everything we can to reflect on his life and try to become Jesse Foxes to all those we meet, approaching everyone, with the same kindness and compassion that Jesse did. Jesse‘s favorite song is one I personally love, and it’s one I will never choose to detach his identity from. It is by Tears for Fears called “Everybody wants to rule the world”. One part of the lyrics says “help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure – nothing ever lasts forever", and though it hurts, we have to accept this reality and grow from grief and pain. We love you, Jesse, may Jehovah grant your living family peace and comfort during this time of loss and grieving. “for the grave cannot glorify you, death cannot praise you. Those who go down into the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. The living, the living could praise you, just as I can this day. A father can give his sons knowledge about your faithfulness“. Isaiah 38:18-19.
