Jennifer Christine Baker was born on May 14th, 1949 in Vacherie, Louisiana and entered eternal rest after on Tuesday, April 18. 2023. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Philip Catholic Church in Vacherie. She graduated from St. James High School. She is one of 8 siblings and is preceded in death by her husband Leon Thomas Baker Sr., parents Amelia and Junius Cooper and brothers Lloyd Cooper and Clifford Cooper.
Jennifer resided in New Orleans until she met and married the love of her life, Leon Thomas Baker Sr. in 1975 who worked for Delta Airlines and eventually they moved to Bedford, Texas.
From this marriage that lasted 37 years, they had two daughters, Tameko Mays (John) and Monica Baker and one son, Leon Thomas Baker, Jr. She had two grandchildren, Sydney Mays and Kyler Baker. She is survived by sisters, Evelie Wilson, Lydia Small and brothers, Jackie Cooper, Morris Cooper (Alriner) and Joseph Cooper, all from Louisiana.
Jennifer was a loving wife and mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed hosting friends and family with down-home, heavenly delicious foods including her signature cajun gumbo, smothered chicken, red beans, rice, and fried chicken! Jennifer loved being around family but found great joy in just watching her favorite tv shows and movies in the quiet, peaceful confines of her bedroom.
Jennifer is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends throughout Texas and Louisiana.
Memorial service: A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held at 4pm Saturday, April 29, at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Beltline Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75202.
