Francisco, was born on April 30, 1940 in the City of Frontera, Coahuila Mexico to Laurencia Gonzalez Elizondo and Merced Elizondo. He was the second oldest of twelve children.
At a very young age, and still in his teens, Francisco decided to pursue the American Dream. He traveled to Galveston, TX where he began working as an apprentice with his uncle Manuel in the repair and remodeling of houses. He also worked temporarily in shrimp boats, but because of the severe seasickness he experienced he decided fishing was not his thing.
In his mid-20’s, in one of his trips to Mexico to visit family members, Francisco met the love of his life, Nancy Cipriano. Together they raised their seven children: Ruben, Laurencia, Frank, Jr., Manuel, Jessie, Merced and Alondra. All his sons and daughters bore Francisco beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren that became his crown and honor.
His passion for progress, and with the purpose in mind of bettering the lives of his parents, siblings and of his future generations, he decided to move to the “BIG D.” The city was developing at this time, and as the city was growing, so were the opportunities. It was here that the opportunity arose to work at a construction company, Lee Roy Westbrook. Being the visionary that he was, and despite his lack of knowledge in the construction field, he was not at all intimidated, he was the type of man that took challenges by the horns. His vision was too big and “I cant's” were never a part of his vocabulary. What a great example of tenacity and endurance he was! It was this passion to pursue his dreams that led him to travel to Austin to learn carpentry, just so that he could get promoted to a better position. Having learned at an early age the belief that work, and diligence were the paths to success, his amazing work ethics became known to his superiors. Soon enough, he became truly gifted in his ability to manage workers, read blueprints and finish big projects before its due deadline. He had begun as a general laborer, and quickly worked his way up to Super-Intendent. Pancho worked tirelessly for 52 years, up until his retirement.
Not only was Pancho a hard-working man, he was also a savvy business entrepreneur, owning several businesses in his home town of Frontera. This business trait has now been passed along to several of his children and grandchildren, who are now following along the steps of their father/grandfather as successful business owners and entrepreneurs. You might say that the E” in Elizondo could also stand for “Entrepreneur.”
His love and compassion for the needy and the less privileged, won the hearts and respect of mayors and entire communities. Having been an Altruist for 30 years; he was once honored with the keys to the city. Francisco would travel at least three times a year to Mexico, packed with wheelchairs, medical equipment, crutches, food, and all he could possibly fit in his truck. He was passionate in his giving and humble in character. He would get upset if news channels wanted a picture of him with the equipment, because he wanted absolutely no glory to himself. He also had the privilege of building churches for pastors in need of funds, and hosting community events where he donated food, candy, turkeys, and celebrated Christmas with the children from vulnerable communities.
Francisco enjoyed seafood, a good steak, and Mexican food, especially the ones prepared by his wife Nancy. He also loved antiques, traveling, and discovering new places. He had a great sense of humor and would sometimes cause tears of laughter with his numerous quotes and sayings. He also loved red flowers, which Nancy faithfully planted all around their ranch. All his family and friends will miss him greatly, but we take comfort in knowing that his legacy remains in the hearts of his loved ones and that he is now pain free.
Francisco is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Laurencia Gonzalez Elizondo and his father Merced Elizondo; his sisters, Irma Elizondo Montoya and Dora Elia Elizondo; and his daughter-in-law, Lt. Pamela Denise Elizondo.
