Edgar L. Allen

Edgar was the 2nd child of 7 who grew up on a farm. While still attending Como High School he was drafted into the Army. He served his 4 years and returned home where he attended church with his family. During revival week, after attending a few time he finally got the courage to ask the pianist (Geraldine) to a cup of coffee. After many cups of coffee they were married March 11, 1949. In 1953 they settled down in Grand Prairie, TX and started their family.

Edgar was a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1954. He was a very hard working man who had a gentle nature. Enjoyed playing 42, dominoes and entertaining, he never had a problem making and keeping friends. Edgar kept a garden in his back yard all the way into his 80’s. However, above all he was a family man. Taking many trips to visit his family and his in-laws, he was a loving son, husband and father.

Edgar is preceded in death by his parents John and Sadie Allen; siblings CL Allen, Howard Allen, Christine Willenborg, Cleet Henderson, Ruth Coble and Glen Allen.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine Allen, daughter Janese Hutton, son Doug Allen and his wife Judy; grandchildren Craig Allen and his wife April, Alisha Johnson and her husband Jarret, Bethany Allen, Stephanie Cotton and her husband Bryan; great-grandchildren August Allen, Baby Allen, Lucas Johnson, Bailey Cotton, Payton Cotton, Colby Cotton and Anslie Cotton.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home from 7-9pm.

Services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie at 11am.
