Clarence M Brown Jr.

Clarence M. Brown, Jr. passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Methodist Hospital, Mansfield, TX. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Prairie until recent residency at Matlock Place in Arlington. Preceded in death by:Father, Clarence M. Brown, Sr., Mother, Leona Brown, Wife: Faye (Spradling) Brown. Survived by: Brother, Rene P. Brown of Kerrville, TX, Sister, Barbara Ann Britton of McKinney, TX, Barbara’s Children – Brad Britton of Corinth, TX & Blake Britton of McKinney, TX, Rene’s Children - Deborah Slate of Big Spring, TX and Elaine Sommerville of Grand Prairie, TX , and Several great nieces and nephews. Clarence was born in a small rural farmhouse October 16, 1931 in Florence Hill Community, now a part of Grand Prairie, graduated from Florence Hill Elementary and Grand Prairie High School. He was employed by the Grand Prairie Independent School District Tax Office for over forty years till he retired. He was married to Faye for thirty years prior to her death in 2000.He was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Indian Hills Baptist at the time of his death and was a faithful believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He held many roles in the church including deacon, serving on various committees in Baptist Churches. Recent health conditions limited his work at church, but his faith in his Lord never faltered.Clarence was well known in the Grand Prairie community. In addition to his forty years with the tax assessor’s office, he was also an active member in the local chapter of the Lion’s Club. When not involved in a work, community or church activity, you would find him pursuing his passion for clocks. Restoration and repair of beautiful antique timepieces started as a hobby but grew into an active side business. He was known as a man who could wrest many more years of service out of a clock that had simply stopped running. People came from all over Dallas and surrounding counties to engage his repair and restoration services for their clocks.He also bought and sold antique clocks. He made enduring friendships through the years with those that shared his passion for clocks. He was a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, Inc. from 1973 until the time of his death.
