Have you ever known a winner? We have and his name is Buddy Grantham. And do you know the rules of being a winner: We do and we can tell you.
Be a giver - to everyone.
Find the prettiest girl you have ever seen and marry her - 67 years if you can make it that long.
Teach your children to respect their elders and spank them when they act up. Then hug them and remind them you love them.
Be a yellow dog Democrat - don’t trust republicans, but still be their friend.
Be a hunter - and buy every rifle that makes you happy (fill up a room full).
Buy your favorite truck and keep old ones (fill up your lot full of them).
Buy a few boats to find your favorite and keep old ones (fill up your lot full of them).
Find hobbies:
- Race greyhounds (fill up your back yard with them)
- Race pigeons (fill up your back, front and side yards with them)
- Raise goats (make sure to have more than 5)
- Hunt with beagles (make sure you have over 150 in your yard)
- Gamble and have fun with your friends and family (make sure to go to Vegas many times a year (fill up your calendar with trips)
- Fish (and catch the most - fill up the chest full)
- Read every day about the craft that you choose - in fact, buy every book or magazine ever written or published on the topic (and fill up a room full).
- Go to every baseball game of your grandson and remind him to get his arm back (if you do, you will have over a 600 batting average like your PawPaw).
- Go to your daughter’s tennis matches every weekend and support them.
- Never quit - quitting is for losers.
- Tell them if they get hurt in the sport they are playing not to look up in the stands for you for sympathy, but get yourself up dust yourself off and keep playing. Never come out of the game but stay in and Win.
If your family members have been injured remind them ‘that it is a long way from your heart.’
Our dad was the QB at Rice when they beat Alabama in the Cotton Bowl.
Our dad graduated from University of Texas School of Law.
Our dad was one of the best criminal defense attorneys in the metroplex.
Our dad said get up and get busy winning. Earn it. Deserve it.
Our dad had friends for a lifetime.
Buddy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Flovee and Charles W. Grantham, Sr. and his sister, Carole Barbee. He is survived by his wife Barbara Grantham of Grand Prairie, his three daughters, Mary (Larry) Falks, Molly (Joe) Ludwig, and Mallory (Steve Carr) and sister-in-law Bonnie Sloan He has three loving grandkids, Alan Falks, Hannah Falks and MacKenzie Carr that got to see just how much of a fighter he was - especially in the end. He would not give up and let go. He wanted to stay with us. Finally, someone beat him - God. And we know that God is saying “You didn’t lose, you just won the biggest match of your life.” You’re home. And his dad has probably already told him every joke he knows since you arrived. I wonder what you are filling up a room full of in heaven?
