Lester W Cox

Known to his friends and family as Les, Junior, Dad, and Grandpa, he was born on January 7, 1932, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Shortly after his birth, his parents established a ranching operation in the Axial, Colorado area, where Les grew up raising cattle and sheep. Much of his youth was spent tending sheep in sheep camp. His deep passion for ranching and farming led him to acquire and operate a ranch in the Craig, Colorado, Great Divide country for many years. Later in life, Les transitioned into owning and operating a small excavating business, which he ran until his retirement in Fruita, Colorado.

Les was a man of great character with a generous heart. He made a lasting impact on the communities in which he lived, always showing kindness and leaving those around him with a smile and a laugh. He enjoyed many visits with family and friends, including several siblings who lived in the Grand Valley and nearby regions. Les was a member of the Monument Valley Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

In honoring Les' memory, he would encourage you to go fishing, play cards or pool, watch a football game, listen to a few Willie Nelson tunes, and give your time to those in need or donate to a meaningful charity.

Les is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dolores. He is survived by his two children, Alan and Carmen, and their respective spouses, Kathy and Mark. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jessica, Kimberly, Kevin, and Nicole; his great-grandchildren, Alice, Abigail, Tyler, Danica, and Wade; his brothers, Leroy and Sherrill; his sister, Laretta; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, Colorado, at 4:00 PM on December 20, 2024. Family and friends are also invited to visit or stop by Les' home in Fruita that evening.
