Leslie Gordon Wood, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at the age of 95. Gordon was born in Brush, Colorado to Clarence David Wood and Carolyn (Townsend) Wood. The family, including his two brothers and sister, farmed on the family homestead near New Raymer, Colorado.
Gordon graduated from Ft. Morgan High School. Due to his severe allergies which were worsened by life on the farm, and at his parents insistence, Gordon gave up farming to eventually attend college at Colorado State University. There he met the love of his life, June Elizabeth Mead. While attending college, Gordon was deployed overseas in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his tour of duty ended, he returned home to marry June and complete his bachelors degree in civil engineering. Gordon had a long and satisfying career as a civil engineer until his retirement.
Gordon and June were married for 71 years and had four children, Gary, Dale, Darcie, and Leslie. They spent many years in Evergreen, Colorado where they raised their children. Gordon was a loving and involved father, attending all of his children’s various school activities. His interests included skiing and hunting. After raising their children, Gordon and June moved to the Western Slope of Colorado. They have resided in Battlement Mesa, Colorado for more than 30 years. Gordon was an active member in the local chapter of the VFW where he served as the Commander for several years.
Gordon is survived by his wife, June, four children, Gary (Dixie) Wood, Dale (Lori) Wood, Darcie (Steve) Anthony, and Leslie Wood, eleven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
A burial with military honors for Leslie will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
