Larry was born on February 23, 1942, in Fruita, Colorado to Ethel and Elmer Mason. Larry graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1960 and later from the University of Southern Colorado with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1976. Larry married Nancy Akin on August 1, 1969 in Aurora, CO. They were blessed with three sons, Cameron, Joe and Jeff Mason. He was a loving husband and father.
Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, having been stationed in Germany. His main career was as an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance. Something he did for nearly thirty years.
Larry loved baseball. He coached all three of his sons in Little League and later became the Colorado District 1 Administrator for Little League. Serving in that capacity from 1989-2008 he oversaw, District, State and Regional All Star tournaments in the Grand Valley for two decades. Larry was also an avid Colorado Rockies fan.
Always on the go, Larry enjoyed golf, tennis and fishing with his family and later in life volunteering for Mesa County RSVP. He was always encouraging and supporting his sons and grandchildren. “Pops” to the grandchildren, he was regularly in attendance at band concerts, soccer games, track meets, baseball and football games and dance recitals. He loved them all.
Through insurance, Little League and volunteering, Larry positively impacted the lives of countless people. Those who were fortunate enough to know Larry know his unrelenting work ethic and determination, his friendliness and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Ethel and wife Nancy. He leaves behind his three sons, Cameron (Marlena) Mason, Joe (Nicole) Mason, and Jeff (Jennie) Mason and his seven grandchildren, CJ, Brooke, Emma, Jake, Joey, Tanner and Kaylyn Mason. He also leaves behind two sisters, Ellie Redd and Trisha (Greg) Hall, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00am. A military funeral honors ceremony will follow at 1p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
