Flossie, who preferred to be called Marie was born in Denver to a man who had served in France during the first world war. Her mother had come to Denver by train from Missouri. After a few years the family moved to the farmlands east of Greely, Colorado where they endured the depression. Marie, sister Dottie and brother Fritz attended a one room schoolhouse of about 14 students. It was here she learned to love books and the wonderful bookmobile. She started college at UNC but decided marrying husband Robert was more fun. He had recently returned from some years flying over Europe in B-17 bombers. They moved to Wyoming and spent the first year of 1948-1949 in a travel trailer working on a pipeline. It is still considered one of the snowiest and coldest winters in Wyoming history. And thus beloved Sherry was born in June 1949.
