Evelyn T Hurd

Evelyn Toth Hurd, born in Clifton, N.J. on December 24, 1931, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2022, in Grand Junction, CO. Evelyn spent most of her adult life in Belleville, IL, married to Dr. Henry M. Hurd, orthopedic surgeon. She spent her final years at the independent living apartments at Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL and The Fountains of West County, Ellisville, MO. Evelyn graduated from Tufts University, Medford, MA and taught school in St. Louis, MO. She married Henry on June 28, 1954.

Evelyn was a member of St. Clair County Medical Alliance. She was a longtime member and volunteer with the BJC Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Belleville and the St. Clair Country Club where she enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bridge. Evelyn and Henry established a scholarship that has assisted many medical students at St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Evelyn and Henry traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed spending time at their home at the Lake of the Ozarks with their children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Joanne (Ronald) of Ballwin, MO, Henry (Frankie) of Shelton, WA, and Janet (Mark) of Palisade, CO; her grandchildren Carolyn, Nicholas, Julianne, Kendal, and Henry Jr., and great-grandchild, Stella.

A private memorial will be held by her family. Evelyn’s favorite charities are St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN and the BJC Belleville Memorial Hospital Foundation.
