Edward Lippoth
July 28, 1927 - June 16, 2015
Edward M. Lippoth, a Grand Junction resident since 1952, died at his home June 16.
Born in 1927, he spent his childhood in New York and Connecticut. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during June of 1945, and spent nine months in northern China as part of the force repatriating the Japanese units that had surrendered there. After discharge from the service, he entered Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in Geology. He came west and with his good friend, Phil Wein, started Lippoth and Wein Drilling Company which operated a fleet of wagon drills on the Colorado Plateau during the first Uranium boom. Ed met ""Peggy"" (Nadine) in Grand Junction and they married in 1956.
With exploration for uranium falling-off in the early 1960s, Peggy and Ed decided to start a new business that eventually concentrated on the fabrication of mine ventilation tubing. The business, Grand Junction Machine and Plastics, prospered and they sold the company to Schaunberg Industries which still operates a plant in Clifton.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; his two sons, David Lippoth of Grand Junction and Richard Lippoth of Reno, Nevada; and one grandson, Ben Lippoth of Denver.
No funeral is planned.
