Doug was born on December 22, 1944 in Youngstown, Ohio to Margaret (Homolya) McCully and Albert McCully. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1962. As a young adult Doug completed a union pipefitter’s apprenticeship program, and later worked over 35 years in the Tucson, Arizona area as a proud member of the UA Local 469 Pipefitters Union. During the latter part of his career he served as a project manager at Johnson Controls, and a project consultant at GLHN Architects and Engineers.
After retirement Doug and his wife, Dianne, moved to Cedaredge, Colorado, where they set down roots, and built lasting friendships. Doug enjoyed exploring the beautiful outdoors in western Colorado on his motorcycle, or driving the red Shelby Cobra that he built from the ground up.
For the past fifteen years in retirement Doug found great joy in serving and helping others fix things. He spent endless hours in his workshop engineering and machining parts for broken tools, vehicles, and furniture for friends and neighbors. If you had something broken Doug could help you fix it.
Doug also enjoyed serving the community through his work with the Cedaredge Rod and Gun Club, and Grand Mesa Baptist Church. At the Rod and Gun Club he completely rebuilt the silhouette target system by adding pneumatic motors that automatically lift all the targets after each round of competitive shooting. At Grand Mesa Baptist Church Doug faithfully served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, and as a Church Elder.
Doug is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dianne (Brenner) McCully, son Douglas (Christine) McCully Jr. and granddaughter, Annabelle, of Redlands, CA, daughter Kathleen (Eric) Parrish, and grandson, Noah, of Tucson, AZ.
Services will be held at Grand Mesa Baptist Church in Cedaredge at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 25th. Additionally, the memorial service can be live streamed at grandmesasbc.org/media. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Douglas McCully's name to Grand Mesa Baptist Church, PO Box 458, Cedaredge, CO 81413, or to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.
