Dorothy Lucille Frank was affectionately known as Mom, Mum, Aunt Dorothy (AD), Dorth, Dorti, and “the greatest Mom in the neighborhood”, from the South High St. neighbor kids. She was born on November 7, 1920 in Topeka Kansas, in her parents’ (Robert and Evelyn Burns) home. She was the youngest of her three siblings Alva, Ronald (Huck), and Thelma. She married Joseph F. Frank in 1939 and celebrated 66 years together until Joe passed away in 2005. They were the proud and loving parents of their two surviving sons. They moved from their longtime home in Englewood Colorado to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2001.
Her life focus was being a Mom and housewife, though she worked briefly as a switchboard operator for the telephone company during WWII and helped manage the family business, Arned Lift Truck Service in Denver.
She loved playing Liverpool Rummy and was a card shark to the age of 98. Her other hobbies included gardening, knitting, playing puzzles and word games, and she was an avid Bronco fan. She was passionate about dogs and cats and had many pets throughout her life including most recently, Mocha her Chihuahua and Sophie her adopted cat.
She was a strong-willed, independent woman - a kind and gentle soul, who always put others needs ahead of her own. Her oldest son Joe, daughter in law, Cathy and beloved grand dog Misty were with her when she died of natural causes on May 22, 2019. Her family is forever grateful to her niece Karen Mika (Ralph) and her family for their ongoing love and support. We also appreciate the hospice care provided by HopeWest, and the special care proved by Richard Lax, RN. Dorothy’s family held a private memorial service and her remains will be placed at a cemetery with her parents in Kansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Roice-Hurst Humane Society in Grand Junction, CO.
