Charles LeRoy Fry

In addition to his wife of 29 years, Noreen, Charles leaves behind his four children; his grandchildren; and many other family members and friends to cherish his memory.

Charles spent his childhood on farms in the Delta and Cedaredge area, and this is where he developed his strong work ethic and the understanding that farmers fix things and take care of them, not just throw them away. Charles also devoted time to helping some of his classmates with algebra. He left school to join the Army in 1960, from which he was honorably discharged.

Charles was a kind man, with a quick wit and a twinkle in his eyes. He was a skilled carpenter, and often showed his amazing ingenuity by making things himself that would make everyone’s life easier. In fact, the staff at Mesa Manor joked that Charles was the only resident there with a tool belt. He may not have liked to share his tools, which were always neatly organized, but he would always share himself. Charles had a generous nature; he enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with people. When weed eating his yard, he always did more than his side of the fence.

Charles and Noreen had a wonderful relationship. They were soulmates and friends, which embodied the meaning of a true partnership. You could often find them working in the yard together, Charles in the garden and Noreen tending to the flowers. They had a mutual appreciation for each other’s endeavors. While they were both working and Noreen was studying for her Master’s Degree, Charles would often cook breakfast, make her lunch, and would take care of the day-to-day chores around the house.

Above all else, they were loyal to one another, and truly appreciated each other. Even through the trials of Parkinson’s Disease, the many trips to doctors and hospitals, and Charles spending the last four years of his life in nursing homes. It was an incredibly difficult time, but their love never faltered. Charles will truly be missed.

Services for Charles will take place at a later date. His family would like to say a special thank you to the HopeWest Hospice chaplains and nurses for making him feel so loved while in their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’s name to HopeWest Hospice 3090 N. 12th Street, Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
