Shirley was born to the late Douglas and Winifred (Rutter) Philp in Flint, Michigan on May 26, 1944. On July 28, 1973, she married her loving husband James. Shirley worked as a teacher for a number of years in the Lapeer and Flint school districts, and also was the Christian Educator at her church, Asbury United Methodist Church. Over the years, she remained very active in her church by making chicken soup and pasties for the dinners, and helped assist in many different areas. She was also known for her baking skills, especially her delicious pies.
In her spare time, Shirley loved to read. She and her family also liked to visit their cottage up north. They also travelled to many states, including California, Florida and New Jersey. When their sons were younger, her and James would take them camping and created many joyous memories with them. Shirley cherished her granddaughters, Tyler and Isla, and she loved to spend time with them whether playing cards, visiting the cottage, or baking pies together. Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and all who had the privilege to know her.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of forty nine years, James; dear sons Robert William (Meagan Louise) Craig and Anthony James Craig; cherished granddaughters Tyler Elizabeth Craig and Isla Christina Craig; dear siblings Lorene Mae BruinsSlot and Douglas Henry (Nancy) Philp, Jr.; dear niece Lindsay (Matthew) Lindemann) and nephew Scott Philp.
